I'm sure there are others/earlier ones but the one that sticks in my mind is buying a brand new copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to take on my Year 4 school trip to Northumberland. I remember it well and I still have the book on my book shelf!
So what's yours?

I remember my dad coming home from work and bringing me goosebumps 'The Ghost Next Door', which is so old it's before the series starting being numbered. Think I'm showing my age here!

I think it has to be when I was at school, not sure if anyone else remembers them, but we had to read the #Biff, Chip and Kipper' books (the magic key) I used to love them. I also remember collecting Beatrix Potter books, I found 18 of them in my wardrobe the other week and there still like new

My earliest memory was when I saw the Rainbow Magic books in Waterstones for the first time and my parents bought me Ruby the Red Fairy and Amber the Orange Fairy I quickly fell in love with the books and my parents would always take me back to Waterstones to get the next books and admire the beautiful covers! I think I owned 55 rainbow magic books (I stopped reading after the Petal fairies) but there must be around 200 now! Waterstones became my favourite shop and has been ever since

I think my earliest memory was probably my dad reading me The Time Machine by H G Wells. I remember he used to read it to me just before bed, and I was terrified that during the night a Morlock would come and take me away! I think on some level I am still scared of Morlocks!

My literary genius book tops all of yours, mine was Eat Your Peas with a brilliantly drawn moody looking girl that sort of looked a bit like Tracy Beaker. My mom always used to read it to me before bed

When I went to play school, before I let my mom leave she HAD to read me this particular book. I can't for the life of me remember the title, but it was a board book about a little boy who lost his blanket and looked everywhere for it. He either found it under he bed or looked for it there. When the play school closed down my mom brought me this book and I made her read it to me all the time! It seems to have gone missing now (I bet she was sick of reading it!) I wish I knew the title! I also remember my dad reading the witches to me before bed and how he'd do silly voices and I'd laugh my head off.
I was a very poor reader as a child so most of my early memories of books were persuading my family to read to me:) my sister used to let me chose 'grown up' books from the library and she'd read them to me.
The first novel I remember reading on my own and really enjoyed was the stream that stood still by Beverly Nichols. It took me a week of painstakingly reading a bit every night before bed, but I was totally engrossed! I was about 11 years old, and probably if I'd never read that book I wouldn't be so passionate about books now.
